Privacy policy

This policy explains how Gencore Global Trading Ltd handles personal information in connection with the GenClip app for Android and with support and privacy requests sent to our support email, genclip@gencoreglobal.com. It describes what information is used, why, how long it is kept and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

GenClip is provided by Gencore Global Trading Ltd (company number 16078383), whose registered office is at 8 Cardiff Road, Reading, England, RG1 8ET. Contact: genclip@gencoreglobal.com

Gencore Global Trading Ltd is the controller for the personal information it receives: support emails and anything sent with them, including diagnostic reports you choose to send us.

Recording, editing, captions and read-along happen on your phone. We don't receive those videos, audio, captions or projects.

Google Workspace hosts our support email as our service provider.

2. Information we collect

Recording, captioning, editing and exporting work on your phone without connecting to us. GenClip only connects to Gencore’s service (Gencloud, our account and subscription system) when you sign in, buy or restore Pro, or use a Pro feature.

The information GenClip handles is:

  • your videos and projects, which are recorded, edited, captioned and exported on your device and are not uploaded;
  • a limited technical record of how the app is working, kept on your device (see section 10);
  • a diagnostic report, only if you choose to share one;
  • messages and attachments you send to our support email.

GenClip asks for access to your camera and microphone, internet and network state, vibration, keeping your phone awake, and, on Android 12 and older only, storage. You choose what to import using Android's photo picker, so GenClip doesn't get access to your whole library.

If you use a Gencore account or Pro, see sections 6 to 9.

3. How we use it and our legal bases

We use information for these purposes, on these legal bases:

  • Answering support and privacy requests, and keeping records of them: our legitimate interests in helping you and running the service. Where a request is about your data protection rights, also to meet our legal obligations.
  • Looking into diagnostic reports you choose to send: our legitimate interests in finding and fixing problems.
  • Keeping information where the law requires it, for example during a dispute or for legal claims: legal obligation, or our legitimate interests in establishing or defending legal claims.

We don't use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decisions, and we don't sell it.

4. Processing on your device

GenClip records, edits, adds captions to and exports your videos on your device. The models it uses for captions and read-along are built into the app: nothing is downloaded, and your media is not uploaded.

GenClip keeps working media copies and project editing information in app storage on your device until you delete the project; projects don't expire automatically. Deleting a project removes app-owned copies that no other edit uses. Temporary files are cleaned up on a best-effort basis, so some may remain. Your original files, exports saved to your gallery, copies sent to other apps and backups are kept separately and may remain after you delete a project or uninstall GenClip.

Android backup is enabled for GenClip. Eligible app data may be included in your own device backup or transfer, depending on your device settings.

5. Your videos stay on your phone

Recording, captioning and exporting happen on your phone. Gencore doesn’t receive your media.

6. Gencore account (optional)

Basic captions, manual styling and exports work without an account. If you sign in or create an account to use Pro, Gencore’s sign-in page handles your email address and the one-time code we send you. GenClip keeps your sign-in in encrypted storage on your phone. Signing out doesn’t delete your account.

7. Pro purchases

Payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card details. To check that your subscription is active, GenClip sends your account ID and Google Play’s purchase reference to Gencore’s service, which confirms it with Google. We receive Google’s notifications about renewals, cancellations and refunds so your access stays correct.

8. Pro edits

When you use a Pro feature, GenClip sends your account, an edit reference and which tool was used, never your video, audio, caption text or project name. A signed receipt is saved with your edit, so results you made with Pro stay viewable and exportable after Pro ends.

9. Why we use your information

  • Contract: to provide your account and the Pro features you subscribe to.
  • Legitimate interests: to keep accounts and purchases secure and prevent fraud.
  • Legal obligation: to keep Google Play purchase records for 6 years for UK tax.

10. Diagnostics

GenClip keeps a limited technical record on your device: times, internal media identifiers, dimensions, playback counters and failure codes. It doesn't include your media, file locations, captions or project titles.

This record leaves your device only if you tap Share diagnostic report and choose who receives it. If you send it to our support email, we handle it as support correspondence (see section 12).

Up to eight shared-report attachments are kept on your device. They aren't deleted after a set time, and deleting a project doesn't clear them.

11. Services and SDKs we use

  • ONNX Runtime (Microsoft), Fresco (Meta), whisper.cpp, CameraX and Expo modules — run on your device only.
  • Google Play — distributes the app.
  • Google Workspace — hosts our support email, genclip@gencoreglobal.com, which is a Google Group. Messages are delivered to our support recipients and stored in the Group's conversation history, which members of our organisation can view.
  • Gencloud (Gencore Global) — used for sign-in, Pro purchase checks and Pro receipts.
  • Render (Render Services, Inc.) — hosts Gencore’s service (Gencloud) and its database in Frankfurt, Germany (EU), where GenClip account, Pro purchase and Pro receipt records are stored.
  • Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) — sits in front of Gencore’s service for security and routing. Connections from the app pass through it, encrypted.
  • Stripe — not used, because all payments go through Google Play.

Recording, captioning, editing and exporting work on your phone without connecting to us. GenClip only connects to Gencore’s service (Gencloud, our account and subscription system) when you sign in, buy or restore Pro, or use a Pro feature. GenClip contains no advertising software, and it doesn't update itself outside Google Play. GenClip uses Google Play Billing for its paid features. This library includes diagnostic logging that may send app, billing-operation, device and network information to Google, including a randomly generated identifier for a Billing client instance. Opening Pro plans while signed in can initialize the library before a purchase.

12. How long we keep information

How long we keep information
InformationWhy we use itHow long we keep it
Necessary support correspondence and minimal case summariesTo answer you and resolve your caseUp to 12 months after your case closes, or sooner when no longer needed
Supplied media, screenshots and detailed logsTo investigate the problem you reportedDeleted when no longer needed, normally within 30 days after your case closes
Account informationSo you can sign in and use ProWhile your account is open
Records of Google Play purchasesFor tax, refunds and fraud prevention6 years, as UK law requires
Technical record and shared diagnostic reports on your deviceTo help investigate problems with the appKept on your device within limits, with up to eight shared-report attachments. Not deleted after a set time or when you delete a project.
Projects on your deviceSo you can edit and export your videosUntil you delete them

We keep necessary support correspondence and minimal case summaries for up to 12 months after a case closes, deleting them sooner when they are no longer needed. Supplied media, screenshots and detailed logs are deleted when no longer needed, normally within 30 days after closure.

Where a message contains those files, we keep only a necessary text summary and delete the original message and copies under our control. An ordinary support case awaiting your response closes after 30 days without a response. This does not automatically close a privacy-rights request.

When we delete support emails, they can remain recoverable in Google's systems for a limited period before Google deletes them permanently (for example, in Trash for up to 30 days and then in Google Workspace's administrator recovery for up to a further 25 days).

These periods apply to copies we receive for support. They don't apply to projects or diagnostics stored on your device.

13. Security

Your videos, projects and captions stay in GenClip's private storage on your phone, which other apps can't read. GenClip blocks unencrypted network connections; information Google's software sends is encrypted in transit.

Membership of our support mailbox is by invitation only, and its message history can be viewed only by members of our organisation.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so please protect your device and choose carefully who you share exports and diagnostic reports with.

14. Where data is processed

Recording, captioning, editing and exporting work on your phone without connecting to us. GenClip only connects to Gencore’s service (Gencloud, our account and subscription system) when you sign in, buy or restore Pro, or use a Pro feature. Google may process our support email in the United States and other countries where Google operates.

Gencore’s service (Gencloud) stores your account and purchase information on servers in Frankfurt, Germany (EU), hosted by Render. Connections to it pass through Cloudflare for security and routing. Google Play handles payments under Google’s own privacy policy.

Where personal information is transferred from the UK, Google relies on recognised safeguards, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to its standard contractual clauses.

15. Your rights

You can ask for a copy of information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by emailing genclip@gencoreglobal.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

To make a request, email genclip@gencoreglobal.com and tell us what you'd like. We'll confirm we've received it. We use the minimum information needed to confirm it's you, usually your existing support conversation, and we don't routinely ask for identity documents. If we need more, we'll explain why and how to send it securely. If someone asks on another person's behalf, including a parent, we check their authority first. Privacy requests stay open until we've dealt with them. We'll respond within the time UK data protection law allows, and if we can't do all of what you ask, we'll explain why.

16. Teenagers

GenClip is intended for people aged 13 and over. Rather than collecting extra age information, it uses protective settings for everyone: no social features, no ads and no tracking software, and an account is optional.

17. Keeping and deleting information

Account information is kept while your account is open. Records of Google Play purchases are kept for 6 years, as UK law requires. To delete your account, see “Delete your GenClip account” on our Support page: https://genclip-715fb6.genconstruct.app/support/#delete-account

18. Deleting your data

Projects stay on your device until you delete them. Deleting a project removes app-owned copies that no other edit uses; temporary files are cleaned up on a best-effort basis, so some may remain. Your original files, exports saved to your gallery, copies sent to other apps and backups are kept separately and may remain after you delete a project or uninstall GenClip. Deleting a project doesn't clear shared diagnostic reports stored on your device. To ask us to delete information we hold, such as support emails, email genclip@gencoreglobal.com.

19. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll publish the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
